CLICK HERE FOR A PRINTABLE BIO Jim DiSpirito has been pounding on drums since he can remember ... just ask his parents. He kept a steady course on the drums and studied music at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Indiana University of PA, and the University of Pittsburgh. He has both a Masters degree in ethnomusicology and completed Ph.D. coursework in cultural anthropology from the University of Pittsburgh. Jim has traveled to many countries, including three trips to India where he studied North Indian classical drumming (tabla) as a student of Ustad Zakir Hussain & Nishikant Barodekar. As the percussionist for the band Rusted Root from 1993-2001, Jim helped define the great rhythm Jim is a three-time Emmy Award nominee for his music for television, and has composed music for independent and IMAX films. Jim continues to compose music for film and television and is an active session musician, performing regularly on many recording projects. Jim also continues to perform in a number of ensembles, from the singer/songwriter genre to world-music-fusion groups. Jim, his wife Carol, their 6-year-old son, and an insane dog make their home in Pennsylvania.
